Simulated States and Flesh Logics: Corporeal Traces
Drawing and Performance
Duration: 18:40
2024-2025

Blood on Bristol paper, (4x4)

( i )

This act investigates the body as an archival site where identity and lineage are materially inscribed. It explores the transmission of memory through physical form, considering how DNA, fingerprints, and other bodily markers function as repositories of ancestral information. The performance’s use of blood and paper extends this inquiry into a tactile register, where the act of mark-making transforms biological matter into symbolic record.

The resulting traces operate as evidentiary gestures and manifestations of continuity between individual and collective identity.

Rice is a symbol of endurance, so we give it grace.

There’s  labour behind what ends up on our plates. As I count, I’m offering small moments of gratitude for my mother, my father, my sister, all grew up with the presence of farmers. Where I come from, nourishment isn’t just personal. What we eat doesn’t stop with the self, it extends outward.

One grain at a time.
